The STAALION project, supported by the European Defence Fund (EDF), marks a new step in the development of advanced capabilities for space security in Europe.

STAALION, which stands for Space Threat Analysis based on Automated reaL-time In-situ capabilites and Onboard processing decentralized Network, focuses on demonstrating the performance potential of in-orbit Space Domain Awareness (SDA). The main objective is to improve the systematic coverage and detection as well as to reduce the decision loop up to the characterization of a threat around the EU Assets in space.

The project will explore how real-time data processing, in-situ sensing, and decentralized onboard systems can contribute to identifying and characterizing space threats autonomously, directly from orbit.

As the operational landscape in space grows more complex, SDA technologies are becoming vital for protecting and ensuring space infrastructure. STAALION aims to contribute to this by using a fleet of satellites equipped with multiple sensors to detect, identify, characterize & track threats.

Participation in this initiative reflects a growing emphasis across Europe on resilient and intelligent systems for space defence and safety. Based on our experience we’ll contribute to the European consortium by focusing on the deployment of surveillance and on demand inspection GEO Assets.

The work is now underway and the path leads forward. 🛰️
